In-Person
Transparency is key, especially to us transitioning service members, but I'll get back to this statement later. I started my SkillBridge search this time a year ago though I wasn't eligible to start my internship until the end of 2023, but I was contacted by an Amentum recruiter anyway who felt I was qualified for a position that interest me. At the time I felt I wasn't ready to lock in anything plus I was set on working remote or in another state on. In the summertime five months before my eligible SkillBridge I reached out to the recruiter for any current openings and was told the site manager was interested in my application. I accepted the Skillbridge offer and one question I did ask was if they intended on hiring me upon completion based on my performance and I was told "yes." Now SkillBridge is still fairly new to a lot of companies so there were still a lot of unknowns I encountered as an intern, like my job requiring the use of multiple applications that can't be accessed without an employee number, which you don't get as an intern. Unable to do the job I was offered for the Skillbridge internship I just learned other jobs and assisted the staff with whatever they needed. Months went by and I started getting discouraged because I couldn't learn the job, I was most excited about, but I still showed up every day with a professional attitude and learned as much as I could by constantly reviewing training material. Towards the end of my Skillbridge a position and since the site manager was familiar with both my personality and work ethic, I was offered a job for the position I originally was there for and was encouraged to apply immediately. The morale of this story is to ask questions going into any job or internship and give your best even when things seem uncertain.
